Do not use a KRAUS granite-composite sink as a landing place for a pan straight from the stove or oven. KRAUS’s care guidance explicitly warns that direct hot-cookware contact can discolor the surface, even though the material is described as highly heat resistant.
For a buyer, the useful question is simple: where will a hot pan go before it is washed? If the only available place is the bare sink bowl, resolve that workflow before choosing a composite sink.

Heat resistance is not an instruction to set down hot cookware
A temperature claim and a care instruction answer different questions. Do not convert a general heat-resistance number into permission for every pan, contact time or cooking situation. The specific product’s care restrictions remain part of the buying decision.
KRAUS suggests a trivet or rolling mat for extremely hot items. That is not a statement that every mat sold for a sink is suitable. Check the accessory’s own temperature, load and placement limits; a cleaning mat or bottom protector may have a different purpose.
Draw the route from stove to washing area
Try this planning exercise with cool, empty cookware. Choose the largest pan you use and identify a suitable resting place before it reaches the washing area. Keep the handle clear of the walking route. Check whether that place remains available when the counter holds ingredients, a cutting board and clean dishes.
For a small kitchen, write down two ordinary situations: a single pan after breakfast and two hot pans after dinner. A plan that works only with an empty counter may be inconvenient at the busiest moment.
This exercise does not test heat resistance. Its purpose is to reveal a missing resting area while the decision is still easy to change. Follow the cookware, accessory and countertop manufacturers’ heat guidance for the chosen spot.
Do a bottom grid and a trivet do the same job?
Do not assume they do. A grid selected for bowl fit and scratch protection has not thereby been verified as a hot-pan solution. Feet, coatings, support and the item placed on it all matter. Our sink grid versus mat guide addresses ordinary protection and cleaning; heat suitability requires its own check.
Similarly, fitting a pan diagonally across a divided sink is not evidence that the divider is an approved hot resting surface. Keep the heat-handling decision separate from the pan-fit decision.
What about boiling water?
The direct-contact warning reviewed here concerns hot objects from cooking appliances. It does not establish an unlimited safe-pour rule for boiling liquids or every installed drain assembly. We have not verified such a limit for a complete sink, strainer, disposal and pipe combination.
If routinely draining very hot cooking water is important to you, check the exact sink and drain-system instructions before purchase. Ask for clarification when they do not address your use. Do not invent a safe temperature or assume one sink brand’s advice applies to another.
KGD-52BLACK: a model to consider with that habit in mind
The KRAUS Forteza KGD-52BLACK is a black 33 × 22-inch dual-mount quartz-composite double bowl. Its specification lists a 36-inch minimum cabinet, two 9-inch-deep bowls, and a silicone mitt and trivet among the included accessories. Confirm the actual retail package and installation plan.
Check KRAUS KGD-52BLACK — 50/50 double bowl
Consider it if you want this material and two-bowl arrangement and can provide a suitable hot-cookware routine. Skip it if your essential habit is dropping stove-hot pans directly into the bare bowl. The accessory bundle does not remove the manufacturer’s care warning.
If a mark has already appeared
Let the surface and cookware cool safely, then use the manufacturer’s mild cleaning approach. A visible mark alone does not identify its cause. Avoid abrasive experiments or escalating cleaners to remove a suspected heat mark; document it and ask the manufacturer to assess it.
For the broader purchase choice, compare the routines in our stainless steel versus granite-composite guide. This page adds one specific decision: whether your kitchen has a workable hot-pan route.
