Elkay Sink Clips for Thick Countertops: LK363 vs LK463

For an Elkay top-mount sink with a compatible U-channel, LK363 is the longer screw-and-clip kit listed for counters up to 1½ inches thick; LK463 covers up to 2½ inches. Those limits do not make either kit universal. Identify the sink’s channel and measure the material the clips will actually clamp before ordering.

This guide helps you select hardware when the sink itself fits but the supplied fasteners may not reach. It does not replace the model’s installation drawing or certify a cutout. If you already own a suitable sink, a hardware problem is not a reason to buy another bowl.

Hardware decision chart: confirm U-channel, measure clamping thickness, then compare LK363 and LK463; J-channel and undermount systems use different hardware

Start underneath the rim, not with a screw length

Use the model label, supplied instructions and a clear photograph of the underside attachment channel. Compare them with the manufacturer’s installation profile. A screw that is long enough can still have the wrong head, clip or engagement for the channel.

The Elkay accessory sheet distinguishes three systems. U-channel kits serve compatible top-mount sinks. LK348 belongs to a J-channel arrangement. LKUCLIP8 is an undermount accessory. Do not swap among these systems because a marketplace title merely says “sink clips.”

What the similar part numbers mean

  • LK363: 14 screws and clips; U-channel; listed maximum countertop thickness 1½ inches.
  • LK364: 14 longer screws only; the same listed 1½-inch thickness range, retaining the sink’s compatible original clips.
  • LK463: U-channel screws, nuts and clips for the listed range up to 2½ inches. Follow its assembly instructions, not the arrangement of a different kit.
  • LK348: J-channel screws and clamps, listed for up to 2 inches. A larger number alone does not identify a compatible upgrade.

These distinctions appear in Elkay’s accessory literature. The detailed profile sheet we reviewed is revision 10/08; the manufacturer’s Dayton catalog and Universal Mount instructions corroborate the main kit ranges. Treat that literature as a starting point for confirming the current sink and supplied hardware, not permission to adapt an unidentified channel.

Measure the clamping location

Write down the actual top-to-underside thickness where each clip will bear. A thick-looking decorative edge is not necessarily the same thickness as the mounting area. Conversely, a buildup, rail or other obstruction can make the visible countertop thickness an incomplete description.

For example, a measured 1¼-inch clamping thickness is within LK363’s published thickness ceiling. It still needs a matching U-channel, intact mating parts, a proper bearing surface and access for tightening. A 2-inch clamping thickness is beyond that kit’s stated range; LK463 becomes the kit to investigate after confirming the mounting system. Neither example proves the installation will fit.

If a clip lands against a cabinet rail, or a tool cannot reach it, stop treating the problem as screw length alone. Have the installer resolve the whole attachment layout before cutting or altering the counter. Do not infer a workable custom assembly for thickness beyond the published kit range.

A 1½-inch spacing instruction is not a 1½-inch rating

The Elkay drop-in manual linked with the D125223 retail listing says clips can be spaced as close as 1½ inches for countertops thicker than ¾ inch. That number describes distance between clips. It does not say the supplied screws fit every counter up to 1½ inches.

This is why a cropped sentence or a product Q&A answer is insufficient on its own. Record whether a number is a thickness limit, fastener spacing, cutout offset or cabinet dimension. Applying the right number to the wrong part of the installation can leave a sink that fits the opening but cannot be secured as intended.

If you are still choosing the sink

The Elkay D125223 is a 25 × 22-inch, three-hole drop-in candidate. Our D125223 cabinet and cutout fit guide covers the separate 30-inch minimum cabinet requirement and bowl limits. Confirm the delivered model and attachment hardware before choosing an accessory kit.

This link is for the complete sink, not an LK363 or LK463 clip kit. Existing owners shopping only for fasteners should use the confirmed part number and check the package contents; do not assume a sink purchase includes an extended-thickness kit.

Save these details before ordering hardware

  • Complete sink model and photograph of its channel.
  • Actual clamping thickness and any obstruction at each attachment area.
  • Existing clip condition and whether you need screws alone or a complete compatible set.
  • Current manufacturer confirmation when the model, drawing or supplied parts disagree.

For a sink mounted below the counter, use our undermount support guide instead. The attachment system is a different decision.
