Elkay D125223 Fit Guide: A 25 × 22 Sink Still Needs a 30-Inch Cabinet

The Elkay D125223 is a 25 × 22-inch drop-in sink for a minimum 30-inch cabinet, with three faucet holes and a relatively shallow single bowl. It is a plausible replacement when you want to keep a compatible countertop and a simple stainless sink. The crucial check is the existing opening beneath the rim, not whether the old sink was also advertised as “25 × 22.”

The selected model is D125223: 22-gauge stainless, satin finish, three holes. Nearby Dayton listings include other depths, gauges and hole arrangements. Confirm all three parts of the order—model, size and faucet-hole pattern—before comparing prices.

This fit guide is based on Elkay’s model information, its D12522 family specification and the selected retail variant, reviewed September 18, 2026. We have not installed or measured a sample.

The current Elkay model page agrees with the listed outside, bowl and cabinet dimensions. For the cutout and mounting details, the complete manufacturer sheet available for our visual review is revision August 15, 2024. Treat those as planning references: the current template supplied or confirmed by Elkay and the actual delivered sink must govern fabrication.

Elkay D125223 planning diagram separates the 25 by 22-inch outside rim, reference cutout, 21 by 15.75-inch bowl and 30-inch minimum cabinet.

The old rim can hide an unsuitable hole

A drop-in sink rests above the countertop, so looking at its outside edge does not tell you the cutout’s width or corner shape. An old opening may also be irregular or damaged beneath the seal. Obtain the actual opening measurements and have the installer check sound support around the full perimeter.

A 25 × 22-inch hole is not the same thing as a hole for a 25 × 22-inch sink. Cutting to the outside rim dimensions could remove the surface the rim needs to overlap. Conversely, a smaller hole is not automatically safe to enlarge: cabinet rails, the faucet deck and the material’s remaining strength also need review.

Use the reference dimensions to screen candidates before buying, then compare the correct template with the opening. The D12522 sheet identifies template 1000001188 and says a template is not included; obtain the current version rather than expecting a paper pattern in every box. A diagram displayed on a phone is not a scale template.

If your existing installation is the wider 33 × 19-inch Dayton format, this is a different replacement problem. Our D233194 replacement guide addresses that double-bowl footprint. The shared Dayton name does not make the two sinks interchangeable.

Check the faucet deck and the underside clips

The “3” in the selected D125223 configuration corresponds to three faucet holes. The family drawing shows 1½-inch-diameter holes on 4-inch centers. Compare the faucet’s mounting pattern and baseplate with those holes; if you plan a separate dispenser or sprayer, count that requirement too. Do not assume an extra opening exists because a neighboring retail variant has four holes.

Also check handle movement against the backsplash. A faucet can mount through the deck yet be awkward to use if a rear-moving handle strikes the wall. Include access to the mounting nut and supply lines in the cabinet check, especially when replacing the faucet at the same time.

Countertop thickness is another separate constraint. The reviewed specification lists mounting hardware 64090012 for tops up to ¾ inch thick. If your top is thicker, have the installer and Elkay confirm suitable hardware before ordering. The top rim fitting the opening does not prove the standard clips can secure it.

The installation profile shows a U-channel beneath the rim, clips and screws, plus silicone caulk that is not furnished. Access to that underside hardware matters. Do not budget only for the bowl and assume sealant, a new drain assembly and any plumbing changes are already included.

The shallow bowl is a trade-off, not a defect

A documented 6⅜-inch bowl is shallower than many deep undermount sinks. It can be worth considering if you dislike reaching into a deep basin. But it gives tall pots less submerged space and less height above dishes to contain splashes. Your faucet’s stream and the way you rinse cookware influence the result; we have not measured splash performance.

The 21 × 15¾-inch bowl opening is much smaller than the 25 × 22-inch rim. Measure your biggest pan including handles, and allow room to grip it. Curved corners and sloping walls mean that opening dimensions are not a guarantee of flat-floor fit.

Below the sink, a shallow bowl may help the available vertical envelope, but the drain and any disposal still need their own check. Use our sink-depth and plumbing-clearance guide to compare the complete assembly with the wall outlet. Do not infer that every disposal fits just because the opening is a standard 3½ inches.

When we would shortlist it

The D125223 is a sensible candidate for a straightforward, shallow single-bowl replacement when a 30-inch-or-larger cabinet, the correct cutout, a three-hole faucet arrangement and compatible clips are already established. Its 22-gauge steel and bottom sound pads describe a simple construction; they do not establish a tested noise or dent-resistance ranking.

Choose a different candidate if you need deep soaking, a different faucet layout or an opening this rim cannot properly support. Before checkout, put the actual opening dimensions, countertop thickness, faucet drawing and plumbing photo in one note for the installer. Resolving those four items is more useful than relying on the nominal sink size alone.

If the bowl fits but the supplied fasteners may not reach, compare the Elkay U-channel hardware options for thicker countertops. Check the channel and clamping thickness before choosing LK363, LK364 or LK463; clip spacing is a different measurement.
